Dr Aline Smith, Chair of Central Sydney GP Network together with Brett Holmes, general secretary of NSW Midwives’ and Nurses’ Association and other experts including consumers and carers launched the ’10 Questions to Ask’ brochures at Seniors’ Week on 7 March 2017.
These brochures are essential questions for patients to ask when they are choosing residential aged care including palliative care services. You can access these brochures for your patients and their carers via this link.
Since the Commonwealth’s aged care reforms, there are increasing confusion about just how to access Residential aged care facilities (RACFs). Many are caught unawares about contracts and fees. As GPs, we are often the first port of call for our elderly patients wanting advice. These are a suite of practical resources for GPs to provide to patients.
Central Sydney GP network has been working closely with the NSW MNA to develop these resources as well as to advocate for RACFs to continue to employ 24/7 Registered Nurses.
The Network is also keen to hear from members who provide home visits to the elderly, disabled patients including patients in RACF. Central Sydney GP network is keen to support you in your excellent work in this area.
